The humble fleet manager may undergo a
renaissance in 2009 as the recession bites, a survey has
found.
Research for GE Capital Solutions, Fleet
Services’ Company Car Trends report has found that, more and more,
fleet managers are allowed the final say on choice of products and
suppliers – up from 37 per cent to 69 per cent in the last
year.

The proportion of those with final say on fleet policy has also
risen, from 40 per cent to 44 per cent.

Gary Killeen, commercial leader at GE Fleet commented: “Company
Car Trends is supporting anecdotal feedback from the market showing
that fleet managers are enjoying greater influence at the expense
of HR departments, as cost, safety and green concerns overtake the
need to offer the best car possible in order to aid staff
recruitment and retention.”
