Koelliker UK Limited, the distributor of Chinese manufacturer
SsangYong’s vehicles in the UK, has appointed Siemens Motor
Contracts (SMC) as sole provider of finance to business customers
for its 30 dealerships nationwide.

SMC will provide finance solutions for SsangYong’s business user
customers, ranging from “sole traders to fleets of many hundreds of
vehicles”, the financier said.

Peter Austin, the newly-appointed general manager for SMC, said
he believed this partnership to be promising: “We believe that with
our finance, the SsangYong range will prove popular with fleet
managers and business users alike.

“SsangYong is a strong and growing business,” he added, “and we
now have the opportunity to leverage the relationship we have with
SsangYong, as manufacturer and importer relationships are a key
part of our business plan.

“We are in negotiations with other manufacturers at the moment,
to build more links on the same principles as those we have with
SsangYong, and with Kia.” SMC was appointed as corporate finance
partner for Kia some four years ago and provides fleet finance
through its 250 UK dealerships.

Austin’s confidence was shared by Ian Nicholson, operations and
finance director for Koelliker, who lauded Siemens’ online contract
hire quotation tool – to which SsangYong dealers will have
exclusive access – as “light years ahead of the rest of the vehicle
leasing industry”.

Milan-based Koelliker already imports SsangYong vehicles to
Italy, Austria and Hungary, as well as distributing Kia, Hyundai
and Mitsubishi vehicles in Italy.

Bank of Scotland, meanwhile, provides motor finance for
SsangYong’s non-business user customers.
