Online sales of fleet vehicle sales
are on the rise, but internet purchasing is still erratic on a
day-to-day basis, software specialist epyx has said.
The company, whose 1link.co.uk
e-commerce platform is used by fleets to order new cars and vans
from franchise dealers, has reported orders up 50% for the year to
end-June, but still not reaching pre-recession levels.

Trinder said: “Fleets are certainly buying cars and vans in much
higher numbers than during the last couple of years, but are not
automatically repeating orders in the same way they would have done
before the recession.
“Instead, each order for a single
vehicle or a batch is being carefully considered.”
Trinder pointed to “strong
indications” that fleets are increasingly using e-commerce for
vehicle ordering.
“The benefits that e-commerce brings
to fleets buying cars and vans are very similar to those it
delivers in areas such as buying service and maintenance or
short-term hire,” Trinder added.
