Information about driver behaviour
which should be at the heart of fleet managers’ decision making
process regularly goes unrecorded, according to fleet management
software provider CFC Solutions.
CFC managing director Neville Briggs
said, instead, software should help managers to build a picture of
how drivers actually behave.
“Managers usually get involved when
there is a need for maintenance, or when something unforeseen such
as an accident occurs, but there is an unseen world in between such
events which is actual vehicle use,” Briggs added.
“Even if information is being recorded
through telematics and fleet management systems it generally
records events and fails to analyse what happens between them.
“The technology exists for global
fleet management systems to record driver information through
telematics and to combine it with fleet software data to provide a
detailed and relevant analysis of fleet use.
“This would produce a comprehensive
picture of a fleet by combining information about usage of company
cars and vans with desktop management tools.”
