Car maker BMW has emerged as a top performer in its relationships with leasing companies, according to a new survey by the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA).

BVRLA’s OEM Relationship Survey reflects the feedback from leasing companies managing more than one million cars.

It evaluates 23 top original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), based on several factors such as the quality of the working relationship, the car-buying process, the products and services, after-sale assistance, electric vehicles (EV), and financial backing.

With 14 “Best in Class” ratings, BMW was in the lead, followed by VW with seven and MG with four.

In the main working relationship category, VW was ranked first, just above Mini and Mazda.

BMW was praised for its products and services, leading the category and excelling in in-life services by topping five out of seven rankings.

Audi and Volkswagen shared the top spot in the vehicle purchasing category, recognised for their logistics and handover processes while MG was noted for its lead times.

In the EV segment, Tesla and Polestar were acknowledged for their EV range, but BMW was distinguished for its EV technical and driver support.

The survey, conducted with the assistance of independent research consultants experteye, involved 26 leasing companies.

BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney said: “In the automotive world, there are few relationships as important or long-lasting as that between lease companies and OEMs.

“The pace of technological, regulatory and market change is relentless and having a huge impact on the entire supply chain. It is vital that we assess that impact and take every opportunity to highlight best practice where it is occurring.

“We would like to congratulate those OEMs who our members have recognised for delivering high-quality products and services. We invite all manufacturers to collaborate with us in exploring ways to improve this ‘special relationship’.”

Recently, BVRLA announced that Keaney will leave the association at the end of this year.
