The Electric Car Scheme, an enabler and promoter of sustainable commuting through electric vehicles (EVs), has achieved B Corporation certification.

This recognition follows a certification process, marking The Electric Car Scheme’s dedication to Net Zero as the preferred choice for businesses and consumers.

The B Corp certification, an evaluation of a company’s impact on social and environmental issues, saw The Electric Car Scheme surpass the minimum score requirement of 80 with a score of 104.3.

The company will maintain this score through ongoing collaboration with B Lab, ensuring continued efforts to address global challenges.

With 8,000 businesses out of over 200,000 applications achieving B Corp certification globally, and 1,500 certified in the UK, The Electric Car Scheme’s accomplishment places it among the select few committed to rigorous sustainable business practices, the company said in a press release.

The Electric Car Scheme offers businesses a cost-neutral employee benefit, enabling employees to access an affordable path to switch to electric vehicles.

A recent survey indicated that 38% of working-age individuals expect their employers to support sustainable commuting, with 60% expressing that an electric car scheme would influence their job decisions positively.

CEO and Co-Founder of The Electric Car Scheme, Thom Groot, said: “We built this company to help people make sustainable decisions affordably. Our goals and that of the B Corp movement are incredibly intertwined, so going through certification was a no-brainer, even if it took a lot of work. We’re delighted it was a success.”

Groot emphasised that the certification is not just a validation of their application but a testament to the company’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and a profound sense of purpose. He added, “We believe that, as a B Corp, we can inspire others in our industry to embrace responsible business practices, fostering positive change on a global scale. We’re pleased that this certification process is as rigorous as it is. We want our customers to be able to trust that when we say we’re trying to make the world a better place.”
