Transport for London (TfL) in the UK has issued a final call to capitalise on the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) scrappage scheme, designed to help Londoners transition to less polluting vehicles, before its closure next month.
The agency has called for final applications to be submitted by 23:59pm on 7 September 2024.
This scheme has committed more than £186m ($240.72m) to approximately 54,000 applicants, with an additional £61m for central and inner London ULEZ, resulting in over 15,000 successful applications.
Since its launch in January 2023, the scheme has been expanded to cover all of London, contributing to the city’s clean air initiative.
TfL has proposed a deadline for new applications and an extension of the grace period for minibuses used by not-for-profit community transport organisations until October 2027.
The remaining funds post-closure may be redirected to support the Mayor’s Transport Strategy.

The scheme has so far approved 53,944 applications, allocating £186.1m in grants, including £69.5m for cars and motorcycles, and £116.6m for vans and minibuses.
Charities and small businesses have significantly benefited, with over 330 vehicles donated to Ukraine.
The ULEZ expansion has positively impacted air quality, reducing NOₓ emissions and contributing to lower roadside NO₂ concentrations.
TfL strategy director Christina Calderato said: “The expanded ULEZ has meant that more than five million people are now breathing cleaner air and from the Six Month Report we have seen its success in driving down air pollutant emissions and concentrations
“The £186m we have committed so far through the scrappage scheme has been instrumental in the over 96% of vehicles we are now seeing complying with the standards.”
