Independent motor auctioneer SMA Vehicle Remarketing has claimed the second-hand car market in Scotland is on the rise, following the company’s recent high business volumes.
SMA posted successive record sales at its Kinross and Edinburgh auction centres at the start of September, following ‘similar performances’ throughout August.
The Kinross centre posted best-ever volume unit sales and conversion levels for a single auction on 4 September, followed by ‘yet another 100% result’ the day after at the company’s Motability and fleet sale in the Scottish capital.
‘Real demand’
SMA said the performances were part of a trend sustained for two months across its Scottish operations, which includes the two centres. The auctioneer also has auction centres in Leeds, Newcastle and Birmingham and posted a record high in unit sales for a single week in early August.
Bob Anderson, managing director of SMA, agreed with recent comments from British Car Auctions that "September does create a natural spike in used volumes", but added such an intake was matched by "real buyer demand".
Anderson noted: "The pipeline of stock coming into our Scottish centres is continuing to look very encouraging and I am optimistic that we will see new records achieved as the month progresses."
