The UK division of ALD Automotive, the fleet arm of Societe Generale has appointed Mel Dawson as managing director.
Dawson, who takes over the role from Keith Allen, joined ALD in 1997 as commercial director and became sales director in 2005. He will report to Tim Albertsen, deputy chief executive of ALD International.
Mike Masterson, chief executive of ALD International said: "We were very keen to make an internal appointment, not just to recognise the success of what the current team had already achieved, but because we felt Mel and the rest of the board had the right level of skill and experience to maintain our growing presence in the fleet market."
Masterson added that the board, which includes Nigel Fletcher as deputy managing director, David Yates as marketing director and Tim Laver as finance director, have the expertise to help ALD become a leader in the UK contract hire industry.
Currently administering a fleet of more than 35,000 vehicles, ALD launched a joint venture with Lombard in July 2012 to run the Royal Bank of Scotland subsidiary’s fleet operations.
In additional to running the UK operation, Dawson joins the G8 management team of ALD International, comprising of the group’s largest operating subsidiaries, with responsibility for developing operational and commercial strategy across Europe.
