Online used vehicle trading portal Motors.co.uk has reported searches for 4x4s on its website have risen 24% in the past seven days.
In the past week, Range Rover searches were up 282.8% on the week before, searches for Volvo XC90s were up by 189.7%, BMW X5 searches were up by 135.4%, for the Honda CR-V by 90.0%, and for the BMW X3 by 54.7%.
The news follows figures from British Car Auctions (BCA) showing a £2,000 rise in the average auction price of 4x4s from the third to fourth quarters of 2012.
The average price reached £14,816 in December, the traditional annual high-point, with Motors.co.uk agreeing with BCA that recent cold weather appears to have prompted a surge in interest for 4x4s.
