Manx car finance provider Conister Bank has
hired Brian Cartwright, formerly employed at Barclays, to take the
position of Sales Director at its Manchester office.
As a line manager for broker managers Mike
Hirst, Iain Griffin and John Rosbottom, Cartwright will form part
of the offshore-based bank’s campaign to build its share of the UK
market
Within the motor finance market, Conister
almost exclusively provides hire purchase products through brokers,
with a particular appetite for business in the prestige and classic
vehicle market.
Mike Hirst, commenting on the bank’s appetite
for consumer motor business, said:
“We are a niche player rather than a
generalist. A lot of the brokers we work with, like Meridian
Finance and Oracle Finance, are highly active in the classic,
prestige and sports car markets.
“Many of our brokers will draw introductions
from dealerships, but specialists like these will gain a lot of
business through affinity marketing – circulating among groups like
the Porsche owners’ club or sponsoring events like polo games.

the prestige and classic market – we do a lot of “bread and butter”
deals too. Altogether our average consumer deal size is around
£25,000”
While consumer car finance makes up the
majority of business written by Conister, the bank also provides
asset finance to businesses. This area of activity was strengthened
by the acquisition of the portfolio and premises of ECF asset
finance in Manchester last year.
