British Car Auctions (BCA), an end-to-end, fully digital B2B used car marketplace in the UK and Europe, has launched an EV Battery Health Grading service to bolster buyer confidence when purchasing EVs.
The move comes as BCA reports a record number of used EV sales, which is projected to exceed 40,000 units in the coming year amidst a burgeoning market.
BCA’s Battery Health Grading system offers a ‘perfect at-a-glance’ view of the traction battery condition of an EV, assigning a grade from A to E.
This is complemented by a numerical score from the AVILOO ‘FLASH Test’, claimed to be the fastest and most accurate tool for evaluating battery health and identifying defects in used EVs.
The AVILOO test is conducted by connecting a diagnostic device to the vehicle’s on-board diagnostics interface.
The resulting comprehensive report reveals the battery’s remaining capacity with a score out of 100 and highlights any ‘red flags’ related to defective battery modules.

By GlobalDataThe grading is presented on BCA’s vehicle detail pages, search results and Live Bidding screens, allowing buyers to swiftly assess the health of an EV’s traction battery and make informed decisions during auctions.
BCA COO Stuart Pearson said: “The new BCA battery health grading helps our buyer customers to bid on electric vehicles with complete confidence and make more informed decisions when buying. The service offers absolute transparency with unbiased testing and grading, providing a reusable report that will further help the retail process.
“For our sellers, the report will provide the opportunity to resolve any issues in advance of the sale event, along with optimising residual values by removing any uncertainty discounting.
“The new initiative will provide valuable additional support to our customers as the used EV market continues to grow and help everyone with the onward sales process when these vehicles are retailed.”
Post-sale, BCA provides buyers with the complete FLASH Test report, which can be leveraged in the retail process to foster greater trust and transparency with customers, potentially expediting the sales cycle.
AVILOO CEO Marcus Berger said: “The AVILOO battery health test covers 95% of all available EV brands, meaning it is a great fit with BCA’s extensive online remarketing programmes across the UK and Europe.
“Driving increased confidence, along with a transparent process, remains key to the ongoing development of the used EV landscape, and we are very happy to be partnering with BCA on this initiative.”
Last week, BCA signed a new exclusive remarketing contract with Lithia UK.
