British Car Auctions (BCA) has reported that it experienced its “busiest trading period on record” between Christmas and New Year in 2024.

The digital B2B used car marketplace said customers “competed strongly” for stock through BCA Online and direct purchase options such as BCA Bid Now and Buy Now.

During the festive period, BCA saw a rise of more than 7% in sold volumes compared with the previous year.

The online auctions, which ran from 27 to 31 December, attracted over 6,000 customers.

Nearly all of BCA’s Top 50 buyers notably participated and the company also welcomed several new customers.

BCA said noteworthy sales achievements included nearly 100 vehicles purchased through BCA Buy Now on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Additionally, the auction on 28 December recorded one of the best performances for any Saturday in the past six months, with sales performance against CAP Clean exceeding 100% multiple times during the week.

BCA COO UK Stuart Pearson said: “While much of the remarketing industry suspended operations across the festive period, BCA once again gave our customers the best possible chance to get ahead and plan a fast and profitable start to 2025.

“In spite of some challenging weather conditions across the UK, the New Year has started in a buoyant mood with positive buyer engagement driving strong residual values and conversions in the first full trading week of sales in 2025.

“The market positivity and generally stable pricing that we saw for much of 2024 has certainly rolled into the New Year and there’s every expectation for a few strong months ahead.”

In a separate development last week, BCA secured an exclusive remarketing contract with UK-based dealership group Fish Brothers, which offers vehicles across several franchises in Swindon.
