Audi and BMW were searched for online more than any other car brands in August, according to digital marketing agency Greenlight.
The two executive German carmakers were each searched for approximately 450,000 times on Google UK during the month, together accounting for 8% of all automotive queries through the search engine. ‘Mercedes’ was the third most popular term entered into search engines, followed by ‘Vauxhall’, with 368,000 and 301,000 queries respectively.
Greenlight noted its findings followed those of GfK in August which reported 31% of consumers under 35 and 28% of those over 35 would buy a car online.
Despite calls from Benfield Motor Group, MotoNovo and others for dealerships to make the most of online technology, searches for dealerships made up only 0.16% of all queries, although Vauxhall dealers were most prevalent, accounting for a 7% of all dealer-related searches.
