ACF Car Finance is offering its used car
customers a year’s free maintenance and breakdown cover, based on
RAC Warranty’s platinum product.

In a three-month trial, the national motor
dealer is including the cover on all its used cars, whatever the
vehicle’s age or mileage, providing for the cost of repairing or
replacing virtually any mechanical or electrical component which
fails.

The cover was developed in conjunction with
RAC Warranty, which extended the scope of its platinum product for
ACF by allowing it to be applied to vehicles up to 10 years old,
and with up to 100,000 miles on the clock.

Richard Cox, motor operations manager at
The Funding Corporation, which owns ACF Car Finance, said: “Car
technology is becoming increasingly complex and repair costs are
ever-rising, meaning that the sudden failure of a component can
produce a major financial headache.

“This product reduces considerably the
likelihood of a person having to face a potentially crippling
garage bill since it covers up to £1,000 worth of repair
costs.”

He added that ACF Car Finance had decided
to base its new scheme on RAC Warranty’s most comprehensive level
of component cover, rather than less costly alternatives, to allow
for the repair or replacement of expensive components in the event
of a failure, including the factory-fitted air conditioning and
turbocharger.
