Erik Jonnaert has become Secretary General of the European automobile manufacturers’ association, the ACEA, after approval by the Association’s board of directors.
Jonnaert joined ACEA in July in preparation to succeed Ivan Hodac, who has retired following 12 years as Secretary General. Hodac will remain as Senior Advisor to the board until the end of 2013.
Previous to the appointment, Jonnaert’s career centred on public affairs and representation, beginning with law firm Linklaters, based in Brussels, before 25 years at Procter & Gamble in a variety of senior positions in Europe and Asia.
The ACEA includes the European organisations of BMW, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, PSA, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen among its membership. It reappointed Sergio Marchionne, chief executive of the Fiat Group, which is looking to buy out Chrysler in the US, as its president at the end of 2012.
