The BEN
Summer Fete and Paul Finn Vintage and Classic Car Rally took place
in glorious sunshine last weekend at Lynwood, the residential
complex in Ascot run by BEN, the automotive industry
charity.
Bellowing national treasure
Brian Blessed was a VIP guest at the event, which offered a range
of entertainment, including bowling, stalls selling books and
beauty products, raffles and the steel band Star
Rhapsody.
Guests also had the
opportunity to pose for photos with the Barclays Premier League
trophy.
BEN head of marketing Ray
Diggins said: “The Paul Finn Vintage Rally and Lynwood Summer Fete
are a highlight of the summer calendar.
“We are delighted that
everyone who took part had such a good time and that we raised such
an impressive amount of money is a fabulous bonus.
“We would like to thank our
headline sponsors, Camberley Auto Factors, for their invaluable
support. And, of course, our special guest of honour Brian Blessed
who gave so generously of his time.”

By GlobalDataNational BEN Week takes place
from 18 to 24 July to celebrate BEN’s 106th birthday and the
charity asks all the companies that support it to raise £106 to
help it to continue to provide care, support and advice.
This year’s celebration again
has a beach theme ‘Hit the beach for BEN’.
BEN events manager Kelly Neal
said: “Over the past few years, the beach theme for National BEN
Week has been an overwhelming success with so many of our
supporting companies coming up with some hilarious and inventive
ways of raising money.
“We can’t wait to see what
you all come up with this year – please keep us posted and we will
shout about what you are doing for us.”
Black Horse supports
the Olympics
Many readers well recognise
the fellow on the left in the picture (right) as Black
Horse’s franchise relationship manager Robert Doyle, posing last
month alongside three senior managers from the London Taxi Company.
So what are they all doing way up north in Manchester’s Exchange
Square?
Doyle’s actually taking part
in the official launch of the Olympic Torch Tour, part of Black
Horse’s parent, Lloyds TSB’s sponsorship of next summer’s London
Olympics.
The taxi is featuring in a
nationwide tour of the Olympic torch, which aims to collect
nominations from the public for deserving people to carry the flame
prior to its appearance in the Olympic Stadium at Stratford on 27
July next year.
The specially branded cab in
the picture is not all it seems. In fact, it has been converted
into a video booth where members of the public can nominate worthy
people who have contributed something positive to their community,
so they can join the 8,000 people taking part in next summer’s
national torch-bearing relay.
The taxi has already taken to
the road and will be visiting 70 destinations between now and
September.
If you are lucky enough to
catch up with the Olympic cab, you can have your photo taken with
the prototype Olympic torch, learn about the history of the torch
relay, and make a video to support your torch-bearer
nominations.
Sword Apak courting
approval
Stock funding – or floorplan,
depending on what side of the Atlantic you hail from – was the
order of the day at Sword Apak’s annual conference, held at the end
of last month.
While the last conference
held by the systems provider took place in the high-tech
surroundings of the Williams Formula 1 team HQ, this year’s event,
turned the clock back to the 16th century with a venue in the
grounds of Hampton Court Palace.
The bill of speakers was
anything but mediæval, however, with top-notch presentations by
Santander Consumer Finance, Mazda, Daimler Financial Services and
RBS Corporate Banking chief Chris Sullivan.
Entertainment was provided by television presenter and
rally driver Penny Mallory, who stood in at the last minute for
fellow motoring journalist Quentin Willson.
