Manheim catches taxi sales

Wimbledon-based Manheim Auctions had its third dedicated taxi auction in June, attracting 150 buyers to its auction centre and 26 online through Simulcast. Up for auction were 40 London Taxi International vehicles from Blackhorse Motor Finance

Toyota links with EDF to lease electric cars

Toyota and EDF Energy have signed a three-year deal to lease prototype electric cars to companies in London. It will lease 20 Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles to five London companies, while EDF is to set up car battery charging points at workplaces, on the street and elsewhere.

Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 in demand

Fleet demand for the Mazda 3 and ongoing strong Mazda 6 registrations have contributed to the companys corporate sales rising in the first half of 2010. Mazdas net fleet sales totalled 2,977 units in the six months to 30 June, up more than 18% compared to the same period in 2009. Fleet and remarketing director for Mazda Peter Allibon said: “We have experienced a significant growth in our net fleet channels: registrations by contract hire and leasing companies, Mazda Contract Hire, end-user fleets and Mazda Local Business Centres.”

David Webster saves on fuel with TRACKER

David Webster, a specialist in street lighting and highway infrastructure installations, has introduced a greener approach to driving since it began monitoring the fuel efficiency of 123 vehicles with TRACKER. David Webster head of procurement and logistics Simon Haymen said the company wanted to monitor fuel usage to ensure that its “green credentials were adopted throughout the business”.

Hertz extends tennis association

Hertz Global Holdings has renewed its supplier association with The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships for another five years. Under the agreement, which has run for 16 years, a team of 300 drivers will be operating the fleet during the championships, with an additional 37 controllers managing the internal systems. The 2010 fleet will feature 164 Ford cars including a luxurious Ford Galaxy, contemporary Ford Kuga and the new redesigned SMax.

Inchcape chooses most dog-friendly vehicles

Inchcape Fleet Solutions has completed a major evaluation exercise to determine which vehicles are best suited for transporting dogs. The vehicles will be supplied to UK charity Guide Dogs, with which last year it won a major contract to manage its 520-strong fleet. The vehicles were chosen following a recent beauty parade of 17 estate cars, MPVs and car-derived vans, during which more than 20 Guide Dogs employees assessed the operational efficiency of each vehicle.

Vertu acquires Mazda and Ford dealerships

Vertu Motors last month acquired two dual-franchised Ford and Mazda dealerships in Scotland, with combined annual turnovers of £27.1m. Both dealerships will be rebranded Macklin Motors, Vertus brand established this year for dealership acquisitions in Scotland. No goodwill is payable in the acquisition which brings the total number of Ford dealerships operated by the Group to 19 and total number of Mazda dealerships to four.

Fleet deals: Translinc

Local authority fleet provider TransLinc has signed a three-year contract to supply 21 LCVs to CHP, a large developing housing association in Essex. The Lincolnshire-based firm has been chosen to supply the Ford Transit vehicles in several instalments throughout 2010, with potential for another 12 vans to be ordered next year.

Mixed results as car values up, van prices down

Car values continue to strengthen with prices rising by 0.6% across the market, Manheim Remarketing reported last month. Dealer part-exchange values rose by 3% between April and May, while manufacturer stock rose in value by 1.6%
