Pinewood upgrades system
Software provider Pinewood has updated its dealer to manufacturer software (DMS) integrations for Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW, Volkswagen and Volvo franchises. The upgrades are aimed at increasing customer service levels, dealer productivity and profitability by increasing communication between its Pinnacle DMS software and each manufacturers own systems.
Broker figures show influx to motor finance
In its latest annual survey, the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB) has seen a significant rise in the amount of motor finance business introduced by its members, from £759m in the year leading to July 2009 to £980m in the following year.

PCP up at BMW Financial Services
BMW Financial Services (BMWFS) saw its number of new finance applications rise by 9 percent in the UK during the first half of 2010. Joe Pattinson, general manager of marketing at BMWFS, said: This includes BMW car, BMW motorbike, Mini and Rolls Royce for both new and used vehicles. Its widely publicised that mainstream lenders have tightened up their lending criteria, but car finance is still readily available to people who can demonstrate they can comfortably make the repayments.
Coalition backs electric cars
The coalition government is to uphold Labour commitments to electric car subsidies despite planned massive cuts to public spending. It is thought that pressure from Renault-Nissan, the automotive alliance making an early push for mass electric vehicle sales, convinced the government to ring fence the subsidy money.
Ministry of Defence in talks over fleet
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has begun talks with a number of potential suppliers for its non-operational vehicles, with existing supplier Babcock thought to be the front runner. Project Phoenix will replace the 10-year contract between the MOD and Babcock which supplies white fleet vehicles to the military The length of the contract has been halved to five years and will begin in September 2011, with an announcement about the supplier due in the first half of next year
Web 2.0 popular with fleet professionals
Fleet professionals are poised to reap the benefits of social networking and webinars, according to breakdown company RAC. Aviva-owned RAC has made the predication after it broadcast a live fleet risk management webinar on at-work driving in May which proved hugely popular.
Inchcape Retail gives discount to Tesco Clubcard holders
Inchcapes retail arm has entered into a partnership with Tesco to offer Clubcard customers discounts on new cars. Clubcard customers can now use as much as £2,000 worth of Clubcard rewards tokens as payment towards a new car.
BMW-owned company to supply builder
Alphabet has been chosen by retirement property builder McCarthy & Stone Group to supply vehicles and accident management for its 200-strong car fleet. The BMW-owned multi-marque fleet funding company will also provide daily rental cars and driver licence checks for McCarthy & Stones employees. The property builder, which has been operating in the UK for more than 40 years, sought a new fleet supplier after its previous leasing company withdrew funding when the group underwent a corporate restructuring in 2009.
Registrations up 10.8% in June
The Society of Motor Manu-facturers and Traders (SMMT) has released figures showing a 10.8% rise in new car registrations in June, up 19.9% across the first half of 2010. There was also a 25.3% rise in the fleet market, which helped to sustain growth momentum, according to the SMMT.
