White Paper champions longer leases for public sector
LeasePlan public sector arm Automotive Leasing has advocated extending public sector fleet lease contracts from three to four, and exceptionally five or six years, in order to cut costs. A White Paper published by the leasing specialist claimed the public sector should take lessons from the private sector if it wants to save money on fleet. Outsourcing fleet management and using video conferencing were also suggested as cost-cutting measures to help the public sector cope with sharp cuts to budgets introduced by the governments comprehensive spending review last week.
Dutch car lessors innovate
Dutch car lessors and the Dutch Ministry of Transport have introduced a new product known as mobility leasing to incentivise drivers to cut mileage. Lessors Mobility Mixx and De Lage Landen-owned Athlon Car Lease have signed up for the scheme, which will run for two years and involve 500 cars in the city of Maastricht

Arval signs Finning UK deal
Arval has won a deal with Finning UK, the worlds largest Caterpillar heavy and general equipment dealer, to provide 600 cars and light commercial vehicles. The BNP Paribas-owned leasing company will supply the UK division of Finning International with around 200 cars and 400 LCVs on a four-year contract hire agreement, which includes maintenance, short-term hire and accident management.
Short-term leases gain popularity
Short-term leases are gaining in popularity as companies opt to pay a premium in return for flexibility in an uncertain economy.PoolFleet, the short-term lease service operated by ALD Automotive, is to add light commercial vehicles to its offer as the products popularity continues to grow. PoolFleet operations manager Adrian Temple said: “Some customers require additional light commercial vehicles for specific short-term contracts, or are reluctant to commit to a long-term lease arrangement, or buy a vehicle themselves, until they are more certain that business levels will remain high as the economy recovers.”
