The Finance & Leasing
Association’s (FLA) ‘kitemark’ scheme to raise standards in the
sale of point-of-sale finance, and to boost consumer awareness of
the finance products available within dealerships, will soon be
extended to cover whole dealerships, rather than just individual
salespeople.
The decision to extend Specialist Automotive
Finance (SAF) will coincide with a relaunch of the website, on 1
August, said marketing and policy advisor Amy Evans.
Dealerships in which all customer-facing staff have
achieved SAF qualification will be able to promote themselves as
‘SAF Approved’, and will be sent a welcome pack upon gaining
Approved status.
Already, 15 of the 20 largest dealer groups have
signed up, Evans said, and have provided “really positive feedback
so far,” she added.
“Getting to the stage where whole dealerships could
be certified through SAF was always the end-point, but we needed to
get the SAF brand out there first,” Evans added.
“Now is the right time to step it up a gear.”

“It is about causing a culture shift in the way
finance is seen by the public,” Evans said.
“The aim is to boost penetration rates and at the
same time to ensure that appropriate products are sold in a
responsible and transparent way.”
