Dutch car lessors and the Dutch
Ministry of Transport have introduced a new product known as
mobility leasing to incentivise drivers to cut mileage.
Lessors Mobility Mixx and De Lage
Landen-owned Athlon Car Lease have signed up for the scheme, which
will run for two years and involve 500 cars in the city of
Maastricht. The aim is to cut traffic congestion across the
city.

The pilot comes as the Association
of Dutch Vehicle Leasing Companies (VNA) released figures showing
that business decline slowed marginally in the second quarter of
2010.
The 4.1% decline in existing
contracts in the second quarter was a little less than the 4.4%
drop recorded in the first quarter.
First quarter figures were the
worst for the past five years in terms of outstanding business.
The association has defined the
latest trend as “moderately positive” and believes it might
indicate that the drop has now reached its lowest level, meaning
that business will gradually increase in the months ahead.

By GlobalDataBy end of June 2010, the overall
number of leased vehicles had reached 624,747 units, a decrease of
around 1,900 units from the end of March 2010.
According to RDC Data Centre
figures, which the leasing association uses to determine the size
of the Dutch leased vehicle fleet in terms of new business, 24,657
new cars were registered under a leasing agreement, 2.4% up
compared to a year ago.
Leased vans saw a 6.2% increase in new registrations.
