Funnels

Have you ever had trouble with the
“age-old task of pouring a liquid from one point to another”? Your
worries are now over, thanks to an “evolutionary” new approach!

So argued a press release found in
the MF inbox this month. The solution, it said, is Fast Funnel – a
sort of folding cardboard contraption you can carry around with you
for those pouring emergencies. You know, when an ordinary funnel
just won’t do…

To be fair on Fast Funnel, it’s not
a bad idea – it’s disposable, it’s eco-friendly and it probably
does what it’s meant to do. The idea is you use a different funnel
for every substance so you don’t cross-contaminate and damage your
engine (or whatever).

However, on closer inspection, we
seem to have fallen down a proverbial rabbit hole with this one.
That interviews were available to go with the release seemed
preposterous – until we learned the evolutionary Fast Funnel had
turned up on Fox News in the US.

It’s also supposedly been adopted
by brewing company Miller Coors and has even been sent in care
packages to American soldiers in Afghanistan. Fast Funnel, have we
misjudged you?

Photo of Norman Beaumont leading a Maori Haka danceYou
got us, The Funding Corporation. There’s no way we could not print
this picture.

What you are looking at is Norman
Beaumont, sales and marketing director of TCF subsidiary ACF Car
Finance, leading the 250 employees of the TFC group in a unique
rendition of a Maori Haka dance.

The dance, a variant of which was
made famous by the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team, has
traditionally been used by the Maori to intimidate opponents,
welcome guests, or commemorate important events.

In this instance it was used as a
corporate bonding exercise, as staff from TFC and group members
ACF, Cygnet Financial Services and Red2Black Collections gathered
in one place for the first time to celebrate the launch of the
group’s new vision and values.

According to TCF, the dance was the
“Ka Mate”, which Wikipedia reliably informs me is “about the
cunning ruse war leader Te Rauparaha used to outwit his enemies,
and may be interpreted as a celebration of the triumph of life over
death”.

If Beaumont is ACF’s “war leader”,
then the rest of the non-prime market should be on the lookout for
cunning ruses in the near future!

Staff from BMW FS’ multi-make
finance arm Alphera have completed a 320-mile cycling odyssey to
the heart of Paris, in aid of children’s charity Action Medical
Research.

The five riders, led by Alphera
director Spencer Halil, successfully raised over £10,000 as a
result of the four day ride.

“It was a great experience, in aid
of a really worthy cause,” said Halil after the ride. “We had all
weathers but luckily no incidents – not even a puncture.”

He now has his fundraising sights
set on the Reading half marathon in March, possibly followed later
in the year by a high altitude trekking challenge on Mount
Kilimanjaro or Machu Picchu.
