Burlington Credit has introduced
a High Court enforcement service as an alternative to using the
County Court bailiff service to repossess vehicles.
The move follows Office of Fair
Trading’s (OFT) recommendations last year that private repossession
agents shouldn’t be used to enforce County Court orders for the
return of vehicles.

However, many finance providers
have continued using them, claiming that the County Court bailiff
service is too slow and ineffective.
Burlington business development
manager Adam Wonnacott said: “Lay repossession agents shouldn’t be
permitted to enforce an order from the courts. Debate on the issue
has become irrelevant, however, since the OFT made its position
quite clear.”
