Japanese manufacturer Mazda has launched a
‘pay no VAT’ offer in the UK on selected diesel models of the
Mazda6.

The offer is backed by an option of 0% APR
finance over 48 months (with minimum 30% deposit). The manufacturer
is also offering 6.9% representative APR on personal contract
purchase over three years on all diesel models.

The pushing of the Mazda 6 family hatchback
and estate models and diesel cars in general comes at a time when
the popularity of diesel is surging in the new car market.

Earlier this week the Vehicle Remarketing
Association reported that diesel models accounted for half of all
new car sales in the country, with a clear lean toward diesel in
the mid to large car ranges.

Peter Allibion, sales director for Mazda UK
said the scheme will attract large numbers of newcomers to the
Mazda brand.

“It will also reward existing Mazda owners,”
he added, “as many of them will be able to benefit from ‘zero cost
to change’ when trading in their current cars for a brand new
Mazda6.”

Graeme Fudge, spokesperson for Mazda, told
Motor Finance it was too early to say what the uptake will
be but added: “The industry demonstrates that there is a strong
take up of ‘no VAT’ deals and you should never deny an opportunity
to take advantage of market trends.”

Fudge, speaking following a forum held between
Mazda and their dealers, said there was a positive reaction to the
offers from the forecourts. “It pushes footfall back into
dealerships and gives the dealer something to advertise.

“Offers giving money off cars tend to be
powerful calls to action for the customer.”
