Car dealer news from the first working week of
2012.

SsangYong

Korean manufacturer SsangYong has
appointed three new dealerships in the UK, including franchised
outlets in Wolverhampton and Rustington.

Pat Kirk Ltd, of Strabane, Northern Ireland,
which formally offered servicing for SsangYong, will now sell the
brand alongside its Ford, Mazda, Nissan and Chevrolet stock.

SsangYong has taken the announcement of its
new dealerships as an opportunity to highlight the availability of
the marque’s Korando crossover with five years’ limitless mileage
warranty at all three sites.

The new power

With the promised arrival of the Japanese
manufacturers’ first plug-in hybrid technologies in the UK within
the next 18 months, all UK Mitsubishi Motors franchised dealers
will become Mitsubishi Electric Vehicle (EV) Centres as of January
2012.

By the end of March the manufacturer hopes to
have two EV specialists in every network dealership.

The move follows the announcement in November
2011 that Mitsubishi Motors UK
would be offering 0% finance on its mass-produced EV, the
i-MiEV
.

Mitsubishi stressed their consultation work
with dealerships at the time and has now begun a period of
extensive sales, and compulsory after-sales, training in EV
technology.

The new black

Mitsubishi has also begun sales of the new
Shogun Black range across its UK dealer network (confusingly
available in four colours other than black).

The update includes alloys, spoiler, lamps,
handles, grille, upholstery, dashboard lighting and window
controls, at an additional price of £1,000, and another £540 for a
metallic paint finish.

Online tools

A beta buyer

New dealer connection service Betabid.com has
launched in the UK with the claim to provide traders, brokers,
finance and leasing companies with direct contact to any franchised
dealer network in the country and, therefore, offer the
most-exhaustive quotes for sales and underwriting.

The website, developed by Steve Corke and
Linxdesign Internet Ltd, has a public page accessible to anybody
though fee-paying membership is only available to genuine members
of the UK motor trade.

Show me the money

Mapfre Warranty’s Black & White Car
Warranty will now have sales support available through a web-based
tool to demonstrate its value to customers at the point of
sale.

The system is designed to enable dealers to
take potential customers through the pricing, benefits, use, and
terms and conditions of the warranty on screen through a series of
scenarios, and has already been taken up by dealer group
Charters.
