The number of Crushwatch enquiries fielded,
the number of vehicles recovered by the programme and the total
value of those recoveries were all down in January 2012 compared to
December 2011.

The figures from HPI Crushwatch, a scheme run
in conjunction with the Finance
and Leasing Association / Association of Chief Police Officers
Vehicle Recovery Scheme, show a continued fall from their
November peak.

Total enquiries were down 8.9% to 4,504 for
the month while total ‘hits’ (those enquiries that did reveal
outstanding finance on a vehicle) dropped by 17.46% to 383.

The proportion of hits-to-enquiries also fell
month-on-month to 8.5% from 9.39%, itself the highest ratio since
September.

The £2.21m total value of finance hits in
January is a drop of 18.75% from December and is the lowest since
August 2011.

Of that total, Strathclyde Police Force was
the constabulary to recover the highest amount for a second month,
recovering £229,355 of vehicles. Three other forces – Lancashire,
Essex and Greater Manchester – each recovered in excess of
£160,000.

Including West Yorkshire, the top five forces
recovered vehicles worth £873,655, half of the top five forces’
total for December but still 39.53% of the total value recovered in
January.

Ford and Vauxhall continued to top the list of
brands with most recoveries, with the two marques swapping places
once more. 72 Vauxhalls and 63 Fords were recovered this month
though Land Rover dominated the list of single vehicle recoveries
by value with three Range Rover Vogues and one Sport in the top
10.
