Independent subprime lender The Funding Corporation has named Neil O’May employee of the year for his work in refitting the company’s headquarters.

O’May was awarded for his role overseeing the £150,000 reorganisation of the company’s 14,000 sq ft premises in Chester Business Park, including supervision of the work of the all-local suppliers and contractors involved in the project.

O’May is the first recipient of the accolade after it was renamed the Leyton Cooper Excellence Award. Leyton Cooper was divisional group buying manager for ACF Car Finance, the retail arm of The Funding Corporation, until his death in 2012 aged 35.

Time and budget

David Challinor, managing director at The Funding Corporation, praised O’May’s efforts to make sure the refit was on time and on budget.

"As a nationally operating concern dealing with thousands of customers and contacts every day, we couldn’t afford to lose a single minute of activity during the overhaul," said Challinor. "Against this background, Neil ensured that all our computer systems and communication links remained uncompromised by the refurbishment work and the relocation of departments."

The Funding Corporation and ACF have continued to put stock in being a positive place for staff to work, having been nominated as one of the 100 Best Small Companies to Work For in 2013, taken on five teenage apprentices in January, been applauded for its charity work in summer 2012, and ring-fenced its Maidstone and Wolverhampton retail outlets as centres of excellence to encourage better understanding of the subprime market.
