The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has announced Michael Hawes will join as its next chief executive in the autumn.
Hawes joins from Bentley Motors, where he held a series of roles in corporate and public affairs. He has also worked for Toyota and the Volkswagen Group during 20 years in policy and public affairs.
Hawes said his job would be to develop "the value and range of services" provided for members of the trade association.
Particularly, he will be asked to increase representation of, and engagement with, SMMT stakeholders, as well as growing the two subsidiary companies SMMT Industry Forum Ltd and Motor Codes Ltd.
