The motor finance industry was well represented in Leaseurope’s 2014 Ranking of European Leasing Companies, with four such companies among the top 25 companies for new business.

Volkswagen Leasing retained the third position with new business volumes of €12.21bn (£8.85bn) in 2014, a rise of approximately €1.6bn compared to the previous year. The lessor was also the company with the highest number of new contracts compared to the rest of European lessors that took part in the survey, as it recorded 516,808 contracts in last year.

Alphabet was ranked at number eight with new business volumes of €4.78bn in 2014, up from €4.3bn in 2013.

Alphabet was just €4.7m ahead of Dutch fleet management firm LeasePlan, which recorded new business volumes of €4.775bn in 2014, €315m higher than the previous year.

Porsche Bank dropped from the 13th place in 2013 to the 21st place last year. The company’s new business volumes nearly halved, from €3.117bn in 2013 to €1.667bn in 2014.
