The 2013 Mercedes-Benz C Class was UK’s fastest selling car across the UK in May on Auto Trader, as vehicles of this model needed on average 16 days to sell, according to the online vehicle marketplace.

The 2011 Mazda MX-5 Coupe took second place on Auto Trader’s list of fastest selling cars, with a car of this model taking an average of 19 days to sell.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK followed, with an average of 21 days needed to sell each car across the UK. In total, Mercedes took five of the ten spots in the national top ten.

Although these cars were the fastest selling models nationally, they were not the fastest selling model in any one region. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, the Fiat 500 sold faster than any other model, while the Nissan Qashqai was the fastest selling model in the North East, London and the West Midlands.

Citroen C1 hatchbacks were the fastest selling cars in Yorkshire and the East Midlands, while the BMW 1 was the fastest selling model in the South, the North West and Wales. The Ford Fiesta was the fastest selling car in the South west.

The South East was the only region to have an alternatively fuelled vehicle as its fastest selling model, with the Toyota Prius taking an average of 24 days to sell.

Karolina Edwards-Smajda Auto Trader trade solutions director said: "In the three months since Auto Trader started publishing these figures, models in the top ten have consistently aligned closely to their optimal retail price position.

"That should resonate with every dealer because the same principle applies to each car on a forecourt. If you want to sell quickly, price to the retail market – that’s the market as it is now, not as some might suggest it could, should or might be."
