The average price at auction for de-fleeted cars in May fell by £8, or 0.01% month-on-month, to £6,838, according to Manheim’s Market Analysis report.
The average age of ex-fleet auctioned cars remained at 52 months while the average vehicle mileage fell by 413 miles. This is against a background of average ex-fleet and lease cars at auction.
These figures represented a 3.1% rise year-on-year, although this figure was much higher for niche models. Commenting in April’s Motor Finance, Matt Dale, director of G3 Remarketing highlighted the performance of Audi and Mini models in particular for performing above average in the ex-fleet segment.
Executive model prices grew by 17.8% while, at £14,109, 4x4s saw a price increase of £1,700, or 23.9%, reflecting a fall in the average age of these vehicles of six months and a fall in the average mileage of 6,012 miles. According to the latest quarterly report from British Car Auctions, the average mileage of fleet and lease cars was down by 3,000 miles compared to 2012.
Daren Wiseman, valuation services manager at Manheim, said: "The likelihood of fewer cars coming off-fleet, coupled with the slowdown in consumer demand for new vehicles, has had an impact on the supply of quality second hand cars at auction.
"This has in turn supported the continuing trend for used values to remain fairly stable despite the increase in the average mileage of cars."
